Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage is defined as a skill in which different types of strokes are used to manipulate the soft tissue of the body in order to provide relaxation as well as pain relief. Oncology patients use massage therapy during chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Massage is a form of touch therapy and clients experience reduced stress level, eased tightness, and provided relaxation.

Seventy-three precent of cancer patients use massage therapy to cope with the symptoms of cancer and the side effects of the treatment regimen. The effectiveness of massage therapy for reducing depression and depressive states of mind was analyzed in two of the selected studies as a secondary outcome. Studies provided evidence for an improvement of the depressive mood through massage therapy.  Studies show that a gentle touch massage or full-body massage provides clients with a peaceful, pain relieving relaxing experience.
